Main events on September 1st

  • Israeli forces killed 59 people in attacks across Gaza on Monday, including 12 people seeking food aid.
  • The Ministry of Health in Gaza said nine more people died from malnutrition, bringing the toll from starvation to 348.
  • Belgium will recognise Palestine this month and impose 12 “firm sanctions” on Israel, Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said.
  • The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) passed a resolution stating that Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza fulfil the definition of genocide set out in the 1948 United Nations genocide convention.
  • The Global Sumud Flotilla carrying aid to Gaza departed Barcelona again after poor weather forced it to return to the Spanish port.
