Gaza aid deliveries declined over past two weeks: UNRWA
UNRWA media adviser Adnan Abu Hasna has told our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic that the amount of aid entering Gaza has declined and no medical equipment was delivered over the past two weeks.
Here are the rest of his translated comments:
- One million children are at risk of acute malnutrition across the enclave.
- Half a million people in Gaza City face famine.
- Israel is turning its back on all resolutions and laws, and famine denial is part of that.
- We are on the brink of collapse of the humanitarian and relief system in the Gaza Strip.
Aid deliveries ‘insufficient’, being ‘looted’ continuously
Families are running out of survival strategies. Parents are relying on sporadic aid deliveries and skipping meals to make sure their children eat first.
Aid deliveries remain insufficient, disorganised and frequently looted by hungry crowds and armed gangs taking advantage of the breakdown of law and order. Israel is systematically forcing aid truck drivers to take specific routes that expose them to looting. UN warehouses are quite empty because aid trucks are not arriving safely to offload food boxes.
On the other hand, based on what we can see on the ground, Israel is allowing a huge number of commercial trucks to access Gaza to later flood local markets. We understand that these commercial trucks are heavily secured by some security personnel, while the humanitarian aid trucks have not been secured.
This, as a result, gives the perception to the international community that Gaza’s markets are full of products. But people are going through huge financial hardships, preventing them from buying these products.
That’s why we continue to see thousands of people making difficult journeys to the controversial GHF aid centres in central and southern Gaza. That’s why we continue to see deaths from severe malnutrition on a daily basis.
