Israeli tanks roll into Sabra, Gaza City, as child killed

Al Jazeera Arabic has obtained footage showing Israeli tanks advancing into the Sabra neighbourhood of Gaza City in northern Gaza, signalling that it is expanding its ground invasion of the area.

Sabra is close to the besieged Zeitoun neighbourhood, which has been increasingly targeted by the Israeli army over the past week as it moves to seize Gaza City.

A source at the al-Ahli Hospital told Al Jazeera that a child was killed in the latest Israeli bombardment of Sabra in the past several hours.

The civil defence in Gaza also reported that three people were wounded after Israeli forces bombed tents housing displaced people in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Israeli soldier killed in Gaza explosion

An Israeli soldier has been killed during an explosion in Gaza, with an initial investigation by the Israeli military branding it an accident.

Lieutenant Ori Gerlic, 20, a platoon commander in the Kfir Brigade’s Shimshon Battalion, was confirmed killed in the southern part of the enclave. An Israeli explosive that detonated for unclear reasons killed him in Khan Younis.

This brings the number of Israeli soldiers confirmed killed by the military since the start of the war to 899.


Israeli military continues to pound Gaza City

Intense artillery attacks are taking place in the area of the Zikim crossing in northern Gaza. Israeli artillery shells have hit the Zeitoun neighbourhood to the east of Gaza City, along with Jabalia and Jabalia al-Nazla in northern Gaza over the past several hours.

Qassam Brigades reports hitting invading Israeli tanks in Zeitoun

The armed wing of Hamas says its fighters targeted two Israeli tanks with explosive landmines in the besieged Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City. The Qassam Brigades said an Israeli backup force arrived at the scene following the explosions.
