Attacks reported on power plant near Yemen’s Sanaa

The Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV says a power plant south of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, has been hit by an “aggression”, knocking some of its generators out of service. The Yemeni channel did not identify the source of the reported “aggression”. It said teams were working to put out a fire caused by the incident.

The attack comes amid Israeli bombings in Yemen, in response to the Houthi missile and drone attacks on Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza. There was no immediate comment from Israel.

Israel claims attack on Yemen’s Sanaa

Israel’s army says missile launched from Yemen intercepted

Shortly after sounding air raid sirens and announcing its air defences detected a launch from Yemen, Israel’s military has now reported that one missile launched by the Houthis was intercepted.

The Houthis have not commented yet, but this comes after the Israeli military confirmed launching air strikes on a power plant near Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.

Israel said the attack was in response to missile and drone launches by the Houthis, who have vowed to continue their strikes in opposition to the war on Gaza.

Yemeni missile forces several flights to redirect from Tel Aviv airport

Navigation data show a disruption in aircraft movements at Ben Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv due to a state of alert in reaction to a missile launch from Yemen.

Data from the Flight Radar 24 website showed nine civilian aircraft heading to Tel Aviv from various international destinations, including Amsterdam, Munich, Berlin, Boston, Vienna, New York, Athens and Abu Dhabi, were forced to circle over the Mediterranean Sea and off the Israeli coast.

The data also showed a change in the route of a Jordanian civilian aircraft that took off from Amman and was heading to Antalya, Turkiye. Sirens sounded in the greater Tel Aviv area, Jerusalem and several central Israeli cities.

Israel’s defence minister threatens Yemen’s Houthis with more attacks

Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz says “the Houthis will pay with compound interest for every attempt to fire at Israel” after the military shot down another missile from Yemen.

“We are imposing an air and sea blockade on them that hurts them greatly, and this morning we struck infrastructure and energy targets,” he wrote in a post on X.

Katz said that “this is just the beginning”, adding that future attacks will be stronger and more painful.
