Israeli military carries out deadly overnight attacks across Gaza

Israeli forces have carried out several deadly overnight attacks across Gaza, our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues report, including:

  • Israeli fighter jets have bombed a house in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, killing six Palestinians from one family, including four children, according to emergency sources.
  • Israeli forces also attacked a group of Palestinians seeking aid in the Zikim area in the northwest of Gaza, killing six people, according to sources at al-Shifa Hospital.
  • A husband and wife were killed when the Israeli military bombed their tent in al-Mawasi, near Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Two killed near aid distribution site

Two Palestinians have been killed and many wounded in an Israeli attack near an aid distribution centre near Rafah. On Friday, at least 16 Palestinians were killed, many of them near a food distribution site run by the GHF.

‘There were bodies on the ground, people torn apart’

Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili visited the heavily damaged Musa bin Nusayr School in Gaza City, which had been hit by a deadly Israeli attack that killed at least seven Palestinians, including two children.

Um Momen, a displaced Palestinian and witness to the attack, told him: “My children were playing in the yard and they were carrying lunch. Suddenly, we hear bombing in the school. We heard the screams of women and children. My husband went to find our children. We found [in] the school, the classes full of dead bodies and young children, women shattered into pieces.”

Another witness, Um Mahmoud Abu Amsha, said: “We were sitting having lunch … when suddenly we heard a missile hit the school. We jumped and started running, checking on ourselves and looking for our children. We ran in every direction, not knowing where the strike had landed.

“There were bodies on the ground, people torn apart, and we didn’t know who had been hit. We ran, searching desperately for our children,” she said. “This is the sixth time the school has been struck. In the earlier strikes, my daughters were among those killed.”

Everything in Zeitoun is being destroyed

The focus of the Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling in recent days has been the Zeitoun and Sabra neighbourhoods, a little east of Gaza City. There have been endless Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling, and continuous bombardment. People are saying the explosions do not stop. Zeitoun neighbourhood is being wiped off the map.

This is the same exact scenario that took place in Rafah, in parts of Khan Younis, in Jabalia, in Beit Lahiya, in Beit Hanoon, where Israeli forces concentrate on that area. We’re seeing houses, schools, public facilities, government buildings – everything in Zeitoun is being destroyed.

Still, there are Palestinians who are staying put. They don’t want to leave because they believe they will be targeted if they do.
