At least 49 Palestinians, including 17 aid seekers, have been killed and 369 injured in Israeli attacks across Gaza in 24 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry. Two bodies were also recovered from the rubble of previous Israeli attacks, the ministry said on Telegram.
In the same period, at least one child have starved to death in the territory, bringing the total count of hunger-related deaths to 240, including 107 children, the ministry said.
Israel’s war on Gaza has killed 61,827 Palestinians and injured 155,275 since October 7, 2023, the ministry added.
The total number of aid seekers killed since May 27, when Israel introduced a new aid distribution mechanism through the US-based GHF, has reached 1,898, with more than 14,113 injured, the statement said.
UN says at least 1,760 people killed while seeking aid in Gaza
The UN human rights office says at least 1,760 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid in Gaza since late May, a jump of several hundred since its last published figures at the beginning of August.
“Since 27 May, and as of 13 August, we have recorded that at least 1,760 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid; 994 in the vicinity of GHF (Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) sites and 766 along the routes of supply convoys. Most of these killings were committed by the Israeli military,” the agency’s office for Palestinian territory said in a statement.
UN Human Rights Office denounces Israel’s ‘deliberate targeting’ of Palestinians around aid convoys
The UN’s Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, OHCHR, says it recorded 11 incidents involving attacks on Palestinians providing security to aid convoys or seeking aid since the beginning of August, resulting in the killing of at least 46 people, mainly those providing security for convoys.
In the period from May 27 to August 13, the agency said at least 1,760 people were killed while seeking aid, including 994 in the vicinity of sites operated by the controversial GHF.
“These attacks are part of a recurring pattern, suggesting deliberate targeting by the Israeli military,” it said in a statement.
