This is not the first time Palestinians have been starved to death
In 2014, thousands of Palestinians in Syria’s Yarmouk refugee camp were starved under siege by the Assad regime, which cut them off from food, medicine and water in a blockade that lasted years. Today, Palestine’s Gaza is facing a similar fate as Israel enforces a total blockade, halting all entry of food, medicine and humanitarian aid from entering the besieged enclave. As international warnings of a man-made famine grow louder, the parallels between Yarmouk and Gaza are impossible to ignore. And amid Israel’s ongoing assault on the Palestinian territory, starvation is not simply a byproduct of war, but rather part of Tel Aviv’s genocidal strategy.
