Was it really? Kinect came out end 2010, Wii peaked the year before and was already on its downward curve.
Kinect did not boost software revenue, It looks more like the rise of Mobile gaming started taking the blue ocean.
Kinect came out at the perfect time when Wii waggle was starting to wear thin. But ultimately mobile gaming is where the blue ocean ended up. Angry Birds already sold 12 million copies before Kinect launched. Pokemon Go in 2016 reached 232 million active players and went on to 500 million downloads.
I don't dispute Kinect took some of Wii's blue ocean, Wii went from 101 million to 13.6 million WiiU sales, and gave 360 a late gen boost. But it was only a temporary boost of a crowd that wasn't interested in a new console just 2-3 years later and instead went seems to have gone with mobile gaming.
Kinect 2 was a total waste.
