These are a weird set of questions to use to say that the right has more diversity of thought than the left. A lot of these questions are inherently skewed towards left-wingers being in complete support of them, like no shit the vast majority of left-wingers support LGBT marriage and are pro-choice, no shit the vast majority of left-wingers care about the environment, Lol.
Also if I said "do you support vaccines" and the majority on one side agreed but there was divergence on the other side, I mean sure that's diversity of thought, shows to me that side has a lot of anti-science morons in it, Lol. Likewise what we see here is that Republicans are often split between two major groups, especially in America...
A. The fiscal Republicans who only care about tax breaks and making money, they may not necessarily agree with banning LGBT marriage or abortion but they sure as shit don't care enough to do anything about it, they will put their beliefs to one side as long as they're on the winning side and making money. They definitely don't want companies being regulated either.
B. Christian extremists who are anti-LBGT marriage, anti-abortion, etc. Where they may diverge with fiscal Republicans is in things like protecting the environment, improving social conditions for select groups, welfare programs, etc. But they still have bigoted opinions due to their religious beliefs and being religious doesn't give you the right to remove rights from people.
But also the study itself does not make the claim "the right has more diversity of thought than the left" in the study. Also the mapping is based on a 5 point scale which is basically "strongly agree/strongly disagree" and basically means Democrats more often selected "strongly agree" on certain issues and looking at those questions it's a bit of a "no shit" in what they agreed with.
I could easily spin the results of this study as "The left largely agrees with each other on key issues such as treating each other with kindness, fact based science like climate change, improving social conditions for everyone, whereas the right struggles to have unity on issues because they have a large component of extremists on certain issues should as LGBT rights, abortion and social safety nets"
I could spin it as "The left are more likely to believe actual facts (I.E. Climate Change) and not easily influence by disinformation"
I could also cherry pick questions which would result in a divergence of opinions on the left in America, such as "Should the police be defunded?" or "Should the government own every energy, water, public transport company" or "Should the government get involved in certain wars" which you'll find a lot of left wingers for the latter are very isolationist.
Republicans have shown me recently that they may have different views on certain things, but they ultimately will happily set them aside if it gets them something else they want, they may be some who are fine with gay people getting married but they'd sooner screw over gay people than have their rifles be taken away, they'll always put aside their personal beliefs to support their side to victory.
The Republican Party is one big tent of "beliefs" but none of it matters as long as you bow to Trump/Republican Party. The Party has Neo-Nazis and Zionists under the same umbrella, Lmao. It has anti-vaxxers and vaxxers. They are choke full of conspiracy theorists, they switch their beliefs at the drop of a hat, Republicans went from despising Russia to either not caring or straight up jerking them off because Trump was friends with Putin, that took only 4 years to change 40+ years of distrust, they went from anti-war to pro-war the moment Trump dropped bombs on Iran, they'll probably go back to hating Russia now that Trump said he is upset at Putin.
Most of these questions are related to basic human rights and improving living standards, it isn't a good thing that Republicans are divergent on these issues, if anything it's a damning statement on them. Thank God the left are largely in agreement on these particular questions is my response to this survey, Lol. Now I'll go argue with another left winger about supporting Ukraine or some shit. Diversity of viewpoints =/= quality of viewpoints.
