Lets say I'm playing Spider-Man on SteamDeck but docked, what kind of resolution/framerate could I expect? But I'm waiting for ROG Xbox Ally X because it will be the most powerful handheld on the market and hopefully Windows OS isn't complete garbage by then. |
Steam Deck is basically PS4 level GPU performance, though much better CPU. But it's quite long in the tooth now. Unlike the Switch/Switch2 it runs at full power in handheld mode, so docking doesn't change it's power. If you want power then it's not really the way to go, and if you really want game pass support it's not either. Something like DA Veilguard for example you'll have to play on low settings at 1280x800, 30fps, with XESS/FSR enabled as well. It looks ok portable but on a TV it will look very poor. Steam Deck is better for older and lower requirement titles.
Having owned an ROG Ally as well SteamOS really is so much better of an experience for a gaming handheld, so hopefully MS come with a very good frontend ready for the ROG Xbox Ally.
It's a shame that the ROG Xbox Ally X is going to be £799. For that price you could build your own PC that matches or even beats a PS5 Pro (with second hand PC parts), but I understand that isn't for everyone. Future Xbox hardware is likely to be expensive on the power to performance front too with the direction they are going.
