Global trade unions call for end to genocide in Gaza

The head of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU), Shaher Saad, has welcomed a powerful joint statement from more than 52 Arab and international trade union federations, which calls for an immediate end to Israel’s assault on Gaza.

Saad described the statement as “a rare document of solidarity that reflects the living conscience of the global labor movement”, warning that more than 507,000 Palestinian workers have lost their jobs during Israel’s war on Gaza.

The statement condemned the bombardment as “a continuing genocide targeting the very existence of a people”.

“Workers are being killed simply for trying to survive,” it added.

It also urged governments and arms manufacturers worldwide to end weapons exports to Israel.
