No religion is inherently bad. Because once you convince people that "because god said so" is a good rationale for actions, that is a problem.
Most people will say that "god says" to do good things. I.e. god says you should feed the homeless. Ok, great.
But, eventually, certain people will say that god tells them to do things like, exterminate the jews. Or that god hates fags. Or that god wants you to give them all your money. And so on. And it's especially terrible when you convince them that they will receive an eternity of orgasmic bliss for if they do what god wants.
It's really not that hard to draw a direct line between relgiosity and extremism.
Atheism on the other hand in itself is a terrible motivator, especially to get people to perform extreme actions. If I only have one life, it's hard to convince me to fly a plane into a building. But, you might be able to convince me that my life will be better if I use it to help others. Or if, at the very least, I mind my own fucking business and don't cause any trouble.
