GCC calls for ceasefire in Gaza, denounces Iranian attack in Qatar

The Gulf Cooperation Council has condemned the Iranian attack on the Al Udeid Air Base hosting US forces in Qatar, calling it a “dangerous” violation of the UN Charter and principles of good neighbourly relations, “no matter the excuses”.

The bloc also renewed its calls for ending the Israeli assault on Gaza, saying Israel is killing civilians and preventing international agencies from delivering aid to people in the Palestinian territory.

“The council lauds the success of US President Donald Trump in securing a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and urges his excellency to exert efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza,” the GCC said in a statement.

US Arab advocate urges Trump to tell ‘Israelis to end genocide in Gaza’

Highlighting Donald Trump’s call for Israel to stop bombing Iran after the ceasefire came into effect, James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute, has urged the US president to pressure the Israeli government to stop the war on Gaza.

After Trump’s public warnings to Israel against carrying out strikes in Tehran, Israel only launched a minor attack, allowing the ceasefire to take hold.

“President Trump: If this really happened as you said it did, then why not use your power to tell the Israelis to end the genocide in Gaza & their intensified oppression of Palestinians in the West Bank?” Zogby asked in a social media post.

“Just tell Israel to stop, turn around, & leave. Go for it!”

Israel says it will demolish home of Palestinian attacker

The Israeli military has announced plans to destroy the home of Abdul Rahim al-Haimoni in Hebron in the occupied West Bank. The army accused al-Haimoni of carrying out a deadly shooting attack in Tel Aviv in October of last year.

Rights groups have long criticised Israel’s policy of demolishing the family homes of Palestinian attackers as a form of collective punishment.
