Sure and it’s true for every console generation since the dawn of gaming. Between Atari, Colecovision & Intellivision, there were over 800 games released. Between NES & Master System, there were over 1700 games released. Between SNES, Genesis, Gameboy & Game Gear, there were over 4,000 games released. Between PS1, Saturn, N64 & Gameboy Color, there were over 6,000 games released. Between Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, Xbox & GBA, there were over 8,000 games released. Between DS, PSP, 360, PS3 & Wii, there were over 11,000 games released. Between 3DS, Vita, Wii U, PS4 & XBO, there were over 11,000 games released. Between Switch, PS5 & Xbox Series, there are currently about 8,000 games released. Now obviously many of these games were multiplatform or exclusive to certain regions but it also doesn’t factor in PC games or games released on the smaller niche platforms over the years. There has never been and never will be a time when people can keep up with all the game releases. Even in the industry’s infancy, people couldn’t possibly keep up with all the Atari releases. |
The early gens were just one big platform and others who had a few, DC/N64 didn't really have that many games an example while PS one and PS2 had a massive libary. Steam had almost 19k games last year this year maybe 25K.
