Friday gaming news, the second part:
'Exciting' Red Dead Redemption news less exciting than previously thought, says John Marston actor: 'Rockstar Games makes announcements for Rockstar Games'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/exciting-red-dead-redemption-news-less-exciting-than-previously-thought-says-john-marston-actor-rockstar-games-makes-announcements-for-rockstar-games/
Earlier this week, it seemed like some big Red Dead Redemption news was in the pipeline as John Marston voice actor Rob Wiethoff said he had "such exciting news" that he couldn't share. On its own, that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but given he was playing Red Dead Redemption and said "I truly cannot think about anything else, especially playing this"?
I mean, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the exciting news that a game reminds you of might, in fact, be related to that game. It seems like poor Wiethoff's either had a stern talking-to by Rockstar, or that he's recognised folks were getting a wee bit overhyped—because he's popped back up to course-correct.
Ah, crap: Nightreign players have discovered there's a relic inventory cap, and you can't play once you've hit the limit
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/ah-crap-nightreign-players-have-discovered-theres-a-relic-inventory-cap-and-you-cant-play-once-youve-hit-the-limit/
On paper, relics are one of the more interesting mechanics in Elden Ring Nightreign, providing a collection of passive modifiers to choose from that expands with every run you complete, successfully or otherwise. In practice, however, most of the randomized relics you earn at the end of an expedition are only fit for the wastebin.
Since launch, I've steadily built a collection of bunk junk relics that are barely worth the time it'd take to melt them down for a bit of murk pocket change. All those piddly buffs to throwing knife damage and improved invisibility sorcery are sitting safely ignored in my relic storage.
Or so I thought. Earlier this week on the Nightreign subreddit (via IGN), players discovered that there's a cap on how many relics you can have in your collection. Worse, once you hit the inventory limit, you straight up can't play the game until you've cleared out some space for fresh drops.
Dune: Awakening AMA promises changes coming to PvP: 'We want the experience to be reliable, responsive, and clearly understood'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/dune-awakening-ama-promises-changes-coming-to-pvp-we-want-the-experience-to-be-reliable-responsive-and-clearly-understood/
Dune: Awakening is a hit, but it's not without flaws. PvP in the deep desert is a particular issue for an awful lot of players, based on Reddit complaints, and you better believe that questions about Funcom's plans for it came up during an AMA held today on Reddit.
After a disastrous patch day, Hunt: Showdown 1896's 2.4 update is live for real now
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/after-a-disastrous-patch-day-hunt-showdown-1896s-2-4-update-is-live-for-real-now/
Whatever was going on with Hunt: Showdown 1896's 2.4 update that forced Crytek to shut the game down and revert it has been resolved. The Judgment of the Fool update is out now and the servers seem alive and well.
Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is adding a card game as the mecha sequel targets an increasingly specific type of guy
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/daemon-x-machina-titanic-scion-is-adding-a-card-game-as-the-mecha-sequel-targets-an-increasingly-specific-type-of-guy/
Daemon X Machina wasn't a perfect game, as our 2020 review will tell you. But with former Armored Core producer Kenichiro Tsukuda, designs from Macross creator Shoji Kawamori, and the voice actors of Gundam's original anime rivals, it had a compelling pedigree for meeting the particular tastes and expectations of the modern mecha enthusiast.
Now, its follow-up, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, is appealing to an even more specific brand of sicko. Titanic Scion isn't just for mecha freaks. Titanic Scion is for mecha freaks who are also into card games.
World of Warcraft dataminers dug up its biggest boss ever: A new 3,806-foot-tall horror who could crush its capital cities in one step
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/world-of-warcraft-dataminers-dug-up-its-biggest-boss-ever-a-new-3-806-foot-tall-horror-who-could-crush-its-capital-cities-in-one-step/
If you've got a name like Dimensius, the Void Lord, you probably don't like the fact that everyone remembers you as a pretty normal-sized quest boss during World of Warcraft's 2007 Burning Crusade expansion. You'd want to change that, earn that title of Void Lord, and make them fear you.
At about 3,806 feet tall, according to Wowhead, new Dimensius, the Void Lord, has pulled it off. He's gigantic, fully eclipsing the size of the capital city of Stormwind and easily the biggest boss in the game.
Stellaris updates are going to start coming more slowly, because new patches are causing new problems and QA testers can't keep up
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/stellaris-updates-are-going-to-start-coming-more-slowly-because-new-patches-are-causing-new-problems-and-qa-testers-cant-keep-up/
Two days after releasing another update for Stellaris, Paradox says the pace of patches is going to slow down—not because Stellaris 4.0 is in tip-top shape (it's not), but because firing out updates so quickly is causing more headaches than its worth.
Eight minutes of footage from an unfinished open world D&D game has leaked
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/eight-minutes-of-footage-from-an-unfinished-open-world-d-and-d-game-has-leaked/
Four years ago, Hidden Path Entertainment—the studio behind the Defense Grid series and the codeveloper of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive—posted a bunch of job listings that revealed it was developing a big-budget open world Dungeons & Dragons game. Bad news came in 2024 when its creative director posted on LinkedIn to reveal the studio had spent six months searching for "replacement funding" to continue work on it, but in the absence of that funding, made the decision to "pause development on that project and reduce the company size until we have an opportunity to return to it." 44 developers lost their jobs.
Now, an eight-minute video and a collection of concept art for the game has leaked (via MP1st). Codenamed Project Dante, it's a third-person RPG with action combat (very early-in-development action combat, I feel obliged to say), and two AI-controlled companions. After an initial fight we see a simple puzzle being solved to activate a magical temple, some exploration, a flashback cutscene, a snippet of tavern conversation, and then a song.
Despite bankrolling Square Enix, 'cost' is somehow the reason Final Fantasy 14's newest raid (which has only been cleared 400 times in 23 days) wasn't given an easier version

Dear reader, my job is to find clever, informative, and interesting ways to deliver news to you—but upon hearing that the Forked Tower, a raid at the end of Final Fantasy 14's recent exploration zone the Occult Crescent, wasn't given a normal version most people could do because of "cost"? I am struggling for words that aren't just 'c'mon, man'.
>> Hey, at least now it’s easier to enter the latest dungeon.
