Out of the 35 games PlayStation will release by the end of 2025 for PS5, 13 of them are cross gen with the PS4 (my number of ps5 games doesn't include games Sony worked in but doesn't publish on pc like Ronin or DS. The number of cross gen games does include remasters but doesn't include remakes), so a 37.14% of games are cross gen.

That's without including the 4 games confirmed (expected in the case of Fairgames) for next year that won't be on ps4 and will make the percentage go down to 33.33%. A perfect 1/3, I love when numbers do that.

And yes games from studios that are going to release on 2027 and beyond are most likely going to be cross with PS6. What you talk about cross generational period is a good point and made me remember how a lot of people questioned why LEGO Horizon wasn't on ps4 if it runs on the Switch and the answer was exactly that. They cut the release of most games for PS4 in 2022, The Show was their only game that was still releasing on PS4 officially ending release in 2024. They couldn't just go back to release cross gens 2 years after.

The next crossgen period could be a lot longer, especially if a portable Playstation is in the works. Looking at Daniel Ahmad's posts and some comments made by Sony:

1. PS4's remaining users are primarily playing live service titles. Helldivers 2 and a few Chinese games being the only big live service titles not available on last gen consoles was not enough to entice everyone to upgrade. But GTA6 online should accelerate the transition, and games like CoD and FIFA finally ditching PS4 should help too. You gotta wonder though how many will jump ship to PC.

2. A very high percentage (38%) of PS+ users have upgraded to premium tiers. Meaning PS+ Extra/Premium may no longer be far behind Xbox GamePass Standard/Ultimate in numbers.

3. More than half of Helldivers 2's revenue comes from microtransactions. When all is said and done, this game will be Sony's most successful title ever by a significant margin (not counting mobile games). Would love to know how much Gran Turismo 7 is making though. With a PC version, GT7 might hold its own.

TBH what I take from this data is that IF ArrowHead was dumb enough to let go the Helldivers contract post HD2 to pursue their own game instead of staffing up and develop HD3 and their own game at the same time, looking for a Helldivers 3 developer should also be on Sony's top of mind LOL. With the obligatory change of engine and all the development errors both tech and logical in the core of HD2 a sequel is going to take longer than what is usually expected.

Going back to the point. We sure live in a different world than what it was in 2019. MS, EA and others won't let go the PS5 and xbox series that easily after the new gen begins, transitions will be hard from now on. The best they can do is to keep the PS5 support after the 6 releases ... but when the time comes to use the reverse card Bloodborne remake, only PS6, make the obsessed internet mofos pay lol.
