I'd give the tech and the controller a strong 9 (love performance modes). The aesthetics of the console though... a 3 at best. I still hate how it looks and I'll die on that hill. But it's what's inside that counts.
There are a decent amount of good-to-great 3rd party games on it to be sure, some of which I have purposely kept myself from playing much on a friend's PS5 in case I ever got one, most notably the Resident Evils. But Sony's 1st party games this gen have just been too few and far between. I was let down by some of Sony's offerings on the PS4: Uncharted 4, Spider-Man and Horizon were great; God of War's new direction disappointed me though and TLOU2 was completely ruined by the story. But at least Sony's output didn't take as long as its games have this generation. Frankly, I miss the days of the PS3 when we got 3 Uncharted games, 2 God of Wars and the original Last of Us all on one console, many of which are some of my favorite games from the company.
All things considered, grading it right now I'd have to give it a solid 6. Astrobot was great, Stellar Blade looks pretty cool, but I'm just not excited to get a PS5 and Sony wasting time on things like Concord have put me off to its direction. But if Naughty Dog surprises me with a fantastic looking Uncharted 5... then maybe we'll talk about raising that score. With Intergalactic being their next title though, I'm not holding my breath.
