Israeli medics move patients underground in Tel Aviv as it braces for fresh Iranian strikes

Medics have been relocating patients underground at a medical center on the outskirts of the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, as it braces for any further retaliatory Iranian strikes.

Patients at the Sheba Medical Facility in the Tel Aviv area were seen in video footage being transported to fortified underground facilities. Other footage showed staff transferring equipment and other crucial medical gear.

The facility said it treated dozens of patients injured in the Iranian strikes, with many suffering shrapnel wounds.

Hospitals across the country have been scrambling to move their patients to secure, underground areas to protect them from potential strikes.

‘The danger is that it escalates out of control’

Israeli affairs analyst Dan Perry says he is sure the Israeli public is largely united in its support of strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear programme. However, he said the current government in Israel “is not popular “as Netanyahu’s government has a history of not knowing how to end a war.

“We’ve seen that in Gaza, where the stated goals seem potentially unachievable, and it’s become quite open-ended. No one wants to see that happen with Iran,” he said.

“The danger is that it escalates out of control. If Iran really doesn’t intend to ramp up their response – I believe they said it would be 20 times worse in the coming hours – and that causes great damage in Israel than than it really could escalate,” he noted, adding that such a situation could draw in the US.
