The US has only been 'fighting' countries that can't defend themselves since WW2, and still lost over and over.
The idea of fighting a country that can actually strike back is terrifying to the US, hence Trump saying No to Netanyahu wanting to bomb Iran. Keep bombing defenseless civilians instead. And why Trump was siding with Russia.
Now they are deeply uncomfortable with Ukraine successfully fighting back. As much a matter of ego (How can this pesky Zelensky do what we can't do) as scared to lose opportunities on the Russian markets.
Countries standing up for themselves against an overwhelming force is terrifying to the US. Zelensky just showed the world how to strike back effectively with drones that are getting cheaper and more available all the time. While Trump is left with his pants down lobbying for his golden dome.
