We return to Scandinavia with Norway! I wasn’t too keen on doing this already, but some of you guys really wanted it. Norway is not exactly a mastodon in the industry, even less so than Italy. They had 2-3 titles that really had an impact, including a game that is often considered quintessential for its genre. Besides those, there is just not much to pick from. But maybe you know way more than me and I missed a bunch of underrated gems. I tried to dig deep and find some of them, so I am still quite happy will the poll options. The big Norwegian developer is Funcom, which has even managed to become a medium-sized publisher, with studios in other countries.
Some notable Norwegian developers and their games:
Funcom
By far the most important of the bunch. Has had most success with MMORPGs such as the Age of Conan series, but also point-and-click Adventure games, of which their game, The Longest Journey is often considered one of the greatest in the genre; probably the most popular one not developed by Lucas Arts, the sequel certainly also has its share of fans. Now they are working on a huge project in Dune: Awakening, will be interesting to see how that lands!

Must be mentioned, since they have taken over the Dreamfall/Longest Journey franchise from Funcom and have continued the tradition with other games. None of their titles have gotten universal acclaim though.

Indie studio, behind the very beloved Owlboy, a 2D platform adventure game, that got universal acclaim. It is not their only hit either. Their previous games, Savant – Ascent is a cult favorite.

This Bergen based indie developer got their breakthrough hit with the 2013 2D puzzle-platformer game Teslagrad, which has a lot of unique mechanics. Unfortunately, the sequel did not receive the same level of acclaim.
