German-styled, which later became known as Euro-styled, Eurogames or just Euros, have been major game changer in board game industry ever since Catan made a massive splash worldwide back in 90s, with German designers still among the top BG designers, and German Spiel Des Jahres still being most prestigious game award.
That said, Euros are now being designed everywhere, so it's just common name for game style, not its origin.
Catan is still a fine game, and Power Grid is still great and very..."efficient"...game, as Quinn from Shut Up & Sit Down would say, but I'd recommend you something newer (German no less) that's modern classic, and scratches similar itch to Catan, but with better mechanics, more involved and in less time - Concordia from 2013 or Concordia Venus, new version from 2018.
