It's a shame that they increase prices everywhere so the whole world is subsidizing trumps stupid tariffs.

First, some reality check (as of today):

Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) "9504" section 1: No Tariffs are listed for videogame consoles.

So price increases in the US have nothing to do with tariffs.

For MS, making the consoles has become extremely expensive over time. The XBX has always been more expensive to manufacture than the PS5, but with sales around one fourth of the PS5 only, manufacturing costs have skyrocketed. Manufacturing cost is a number game, and selling only a fraction of the competitors box raised costs considerably. Obviously Nutella has gotten tired of subsidizing XBX hardware at any cost.

The other effect we see are price increases all over the world for consoles. I'd guess the companies simply took advantage of the absurd prices for PC hardware, specifically graphics cards, and went along. Particularly Nintendo with its cheap ass Switch2 product.

Purely guessing, Sony might have shipped as many PS5 as they could into the States while HTUS 9504 still is what it was before Orangehead. Same thing as with the Basel pharmacy companies. We noticed several unscheduled freight Jumbos taking off the airport in early March...
