Israeli military continues raids across occupied West Bank

Here’s what Wafa and Palestinian media are reporting:

  • The Israeli military shot a 16-year-old Palestinian boy in the abdomen during a raid on the town of Idhna.
  • It also continued its offensive in the city of Tulkarem for the 85th consecutive day, with witnesses describing patrols and raids on shops that forced their closure.
  • The soldiers also surrounded a home in the town of ar-Ram in Jerusalem that belongs to a Palestinian man involved in a car-ramming attack in July of last year and are preparing to demolish it. The man has been identified as Muhammad Shihab.
  • They also raided the town of al-Issawiya in occupied East Jerusalem.

Rights groups urge world leaders to end Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory

The 30 groups, which include Oxfam, Medical Aid for Palestinians and ActionAid, have issued a statement noting that more than six months have passed since the UN General Assembly demanded Israel end its occupation of Palestinian territory within 12 months, in line with an advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

But instead of complying, “Israel has intensified its violence in the West Bank and renewed its blockade and military bombardment of Gaza, breaking a fragile two-month ceasefire and further exacerbating the human-made humanitarian crisis,” they said.

World leaders must act urgently to “uphold their legal and moral responsibilities”, the statement said, including by:

  • Ensuring the end of Israel’s unlawful occupation and demanding Israel’s full withdrawal of military and civilian personnel and infrastructure from the occupied Palestinian territory.
  • Holding Israel accountable for violations of humanitarian law.
  • Suspending all arms sales to Israel.
  • Halting trade or business with illegal settlements or enabling Israel’s illegal occupation.
  • Ensuring multilateral cooperation for Palestinian self-determination.

Arrests as Israeli forces continue West Bank raids

Here’s what’s happening:

  • The Palestinian Information Center is reporting that the Israeli military arrested a boy identified as Saleh Ihab Aklik in front of his school in the town of Beit Hanina in occupied Jerusalem.
  • The soldiers also detained four people in the city of Hebron, including three former prisoners held by Israel.
  • One more person, who was blindfolded, was taken in the town of Jaba, near the city of Jenin.
  • Israeli soldiers also raided the village of Tayasir in Tubas governorate, as well as the villages of Deir Dibwan, Burqa, Sinjil, al-Janiya, Ras Karkar, Deir Qadis, and Beitin in the Ramallah and el-Bireh governorate, according to the Wafa news agency.

Israeli military demolishes family home of slain Palestinian

The Israeli military has demolished the family home of a Palestinian man involved in a car-ramming attack in July last year, which killed a soldier and injured three others. Videos of the demolition, which took place in ar-Ram in Jerusalem, showed clouds of white dust rising in the air.

The house belonged to the family of Muhammad Shihab, who carried out the attack last year. He was killed at the site of the attack. As we reported earlier, the Israeli military evicted Palestinians from homes nearby ahead of the demolition.

Demolishing the homes of Palestinians “suspected of carrying out attacks” against Israelis is a long-held practice of Israel. Thousands of Palestinians have lost their homes to demolitions in what human rights groups said is a policy by Israel of “collective punishment” that may amount to war crimes.

We do not yet know how many people were displaced in that incident. But the UN’s humanitarian agency (OCHA) said last week that Israeli forces have carried out a total of 11 such “punitive demolitions” this year, displacing some 65 people.

This marks “the highest number of such incidents compared with any parallel period since OCHA began documenting demolitions in 2009”. The number of people displaced this year is higher, given that some 100 people were displaced in the same context all throughout 2024.

Translation: This morning, the occupation army blew up the family home of martyr Mohammed Shihab in the town of ar-Ram, north of occupied Jerusalem. Shihab carried out the Sarafand operation in the Ramla district inside occupied [Palestine] in mid-July of last year, during which an occupation intelligence officer was killed and others were injured.
