I was talking to a group of friends after the Direct and they were saying how Nintendo has lost their minds charging $80 for MK World, and then I reminded each of them that they all spent $300 each on heirlooms in Apex Legends. FOR ONE FUCKING CHARACTER!! And they had a model to where that was all they spent instead of $400 
I got on to them asking how Apex Legends is worth $300 (in reality they've actually spent a lot more) yet Mario Kart World isn't worth $80?

I've probably spent around that amount on Path of exile as well (a free to play game)... for stash tabs, cosmetics ect.
I guess it depends on if you can see your self putting like 2000+ hours into it (or many more).
Like if you believe Mario Kart world, will consume you, and your gaming habits for years to come.... yes obviously 80$ is okay.
I think most people just don't see Mario Kart that way.
