If they release both a hybrid and a home console next gen I may get the hybrid. If the hybrid was like the Series S to the main consoles Series X. So a less powerful console that can be used portable and on TV, and then the high-end TV only option. But pricing wise the less powerful portable wouldn't be much cheaper.
Just like Nintendo I don't expect Sony to ever have two devices with separate libraries ever again.
Really I don't see any reason to release a handheld that can't be docked.
