Israeli forces not just applying military but also medical pressure on Gaza
On the other side of the Gaza Strip, we can see that there has been pretty much a concentration on targeting makeshift tents and residential homes in the city of Khan Younis. Israel is systematically looking to isolate significant parts and tracts of land in Gaza in order to expand the so-called “buffer zone”.
But there is more, growing – not just military pressure, but also medical isolation.
Gaza’s healthcare system has been left struggling to survive and provide the minimal level of medical services for the surging numbers of casualties arriving to the hospitals, and for also ensuring the stability of the medical service due to the chronic shortages of all essential medical supplies as the Israeli blockade continues.

Translation: Not unusual at all… An innocent child had her arm amputated after the occupation forces bombed her family’s home in the Shujayea neighbourhood, east of Gaza City.
The health system in Gaza has been destroyed: MSF
Myriam Laaroussi, an emergency coordinator with Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, spoke to Al Jazeera from al-Mawasi, an area west of Khan Younis that houses thousands of displaced Gaza families.
Here is a summary of what she said:
- Due to the Israeli blockade, the supplies needed to treat patients are lacking and have left children in Gaza vulnerable to disease.
- The desalination unit is not functioning any more due to Israel’s decision to cut electricity, which has decreased the capacity to retain good hygiene and is leading to outbreaks of polio and scabies.
- We see that it’s a “slow death” for many Palestinians, with shortages of food and water leading to a loss of weight and medical issues.
- There are forced evacuation orders every day, which means that many people have to leave their homes to go into camps, living in tents, and this increases their vulnerability.
- The ceasefire was an opportunity to scale up the capacity of the different health facilities, but it was too short to have enough effect, and now health facilities are being attacked again.
