Casualties reported as Israeli military carries out new attacks in Syria

As we have been reporting, Israeli warplanes have bombed several military sites and a research facility in Syria in what Damascus has decried as “unjustifiable escalation” aiming to threaten stability in the country.

The Quds News Network and the Palestinian Information Center now report that the Israeli military has carried out fresh attacks on targets in Syria’s Daraa governorate, resulting in casualties.

11 killed following Israeli attacks in Syria: Reports

We have been reporting on the Israeli military’s latest attacks on targets in Syria’s Daraa governorate. Those strikes have resulted in at least 11 deaths, according to the Al-Aqsa news network and the Palestinian Information Center, citing Syrian sources.

Israeli military confirms killing fighters during southern Syria raid

Israel’s military said ground troops and its air force killed several fighters in southern Syria’s Deraa governorate, near the town of Tasil, during a raid overnight to confiscate “combat equipment and destroy terror infrastructure”.

Israeli forces came under fire during the raid and responded with ground and air attacks that “eliminated several armed terrorists”, the military said in a post on social media.

The military also said it would not tolerate the “presence of combat equipment in southern Syria” which it said constitutes a “threat to the State of Israel”.

We reported earlier that Israeli warplanes bombed Syria’s capital Damascus and the central province of Hama. Later reports said that Israeli strikes in Deraa governorate had killed 11 people.

Israeli army kills 9 civilians in Syria strike: Official

At least nine civilians were killed and several injured in an Israeli bombardment, the provincial government in southern Syria’s Deraa governorate has said.

The shelling near the city of Nawa came after an “Israeli incursion”, with “the occupation [Israeli] forces advancing for the first time to this depth”, it said in a statement on Telegram.

Earlier, we reported that the death toll caused by Israeli air raids in the south was 11. It is not clear whether it referred to the same attack. We will bring you more updates as soon as we get them.

‘A warning for the future’: Israeli minister on attacks in Syria

Israeli strikes on Syrian military airports and infrastructure on Wednesday were intended to serve as “a warning for the future”, says Defence Minister Israel Katz.

“Israel will not allow Syria to become a threat to its communities and security interests,” Katz said. “If you allow forces hostile to Israel to enter Syria and endanger Israel’s security interests, you will pay a heavy price,” he added, likely addressing Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

His comments came a day after Israel carried out a wave of air strikes in the capital, Damascus, and the central province of Hama. The state-run SANA reported the attacks targeted the vicinity of the scientific research centre in the Barzeh neighbourhood of the capital, as well as the airport in Hama.

Since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad in December, Israel has carried out hundreds of air raids on Syria and deployed troops to a UN-patrolled buffer zone on the occupied Golan Heights.

Earlier today, it struck the southern governorate of Deraa. A local official said at least nine civilians were killed in the attack.
