Probably because fallout was an extremely unique one of a kind franchise... and now it's "Elder Scrolls FPS edition".

Which could of been done just as eaisly without the fallout name and left to the guys who got outbid who actually wanted to make another game like the first two.

Just imagine say... if they turned FF13 into a minigame collection. Even if it's the best minigame collection in the world. It's not what people wanted from that franchise.

I've heard the "Oblivion with Guns" analogy before and I'm not really buying it. The "Childhood character creator" feature of the game alone, for instance, is enough to differentiate it from Oblivion. As for not being what people wanted, people thought Metroid changing to a FPS would be a mistake too, yet when it came out the game was so great everybody seemed to forget their earlier complaints. I can't say for sure whether this will be the case with Fallout 3, but i do think that analogy is a little more apt then Final Fantasy minigames.

How?

That's just a fancy way of saying "we're hiding the character creation choices behind wall.

"Got beat up a lot as a kid" = "More endurance/less charisma."

Also they are focusing on killing. Which is a real dissapointment since in Fallout 1 and I believe 2 as well you could actually beat the game without picking up a gun if you were smart enough.

It'll be an ok game i'm sure... since they got rid of adjusting abilities.  But it'll be lame compared to Fallout 1 and 2 just based on everything they've changed.

The entire gameplay is changed... so it seems fairly apt to me.  It's not a matter of a 2-D shooter suddenly going 3-D.  It's an isometric turnbased strategy RPG suddenly going shooter with RPG stats thrown in.
