...What about Final Fantasy 8. :'(

SquEnix have a very odd way of handling it's games in what it does with remakes, remasters or celebrations. FF6 needs a remake (same gameplay not of that action bullcrap) but what is considered the best FF game by many just gets the 'pixel' collection? FF13 trilogy is still locked to 7th gen. FF9 gets a celebration page, FF8 gets nothing. Even back when, FF3 and 4 got DS remakes but not 2 or 5?

Anyway, on topic. I'm hesitant over what they show if it is a remake because of FF7Rs. And while I know it will never be in the scope of that (the cartoony aesthetic would be ill-suited for that kind of graphics) if they add action to it, It's just another attempt at ruining their franchise.

Yeah. You would think they would do it sequentially?

To be fair, I never did play Final Fantasy 9 on the PS1, I had already migrated over to 6th generation consoles at that point... So only played FF7 and FF8 on that system... And by that point I struggled to regress back to PS1 games due to their visuals.
Final Fantasy 7 and 8 got PC releases back in the day (Which I ran on my Voodoo 2's so they looked fantastic and ran buttery smooth!) Final Fantasy 9 never got a PC release, so I simply never bothered.

As for the Pixel remasters, I would have liked a 2D to HD remakes of those titles, so they stay true to the original vision, but also overhauls the visuals for current systems much like Octopath Traveler, that would have been a more ideal compromise IMHO for Final Fantasy 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Final Fantasy 13 did get the Xbox One X enhancements, which the Series X also receives which is probably the definitive version to play with it's 3072x1728 resolution, AA, AF and an increase in mip-map detail and LODS... Throw in some HDR as well and it looks really good for a 7th gen game. - Final Fantasy 13-2 pushes that out to a full fat 4k on Xbox One X and Series X, but you need to be invested in the Xbox ecosystem for that.

It will likely be a purchase day 1 for me either way, but I would like to see other titles get some love and attention.

I guess we need to just wait and see what happens with the scope of work and investment for Final Fantasy 9.
