German centre right (and maybe EPP as a whole) may have converted to Macron's position on blocking purchase of US equipment with new EU military spending.

"The money should only be reserved for European companies, for European jobs" Manfred Weber just said at EPP pre-summit.

Currently, 2/3 of European military spending goes to American arms manufacturers.

It has been learned over the past 3 years that the US government can block the use of European weapons in Ukraine if they were purchased from a US company, EU officials say.

Macron has proposed that the new EU military spending should come with a 'made in Europe' requirement to end the European dependency on American weapons.

Until now this met fierce resistance from those that say Europe just doesn't have the production capacity for this.
