Turn based strategy and adventure games with a lot of puzzles is my favorite genre even if very few games from those genres are in my favorite games list.
I like them because even if I'm kind of stupid they can make me feel smart. One of my favorite feelings games can entice. Auto battlers, Heroes of might and magic, Phoenix wright and even some action adventures like Zelda and Uncharted can exemplify this.
Atmospheric action games with Diablo and RE4 on top are probably second. And yes my genres are a bit out there when I combine so vastly different types of games into the mix. But I tend to focus on how games make me feel. What both Diablo and Resident Evil 4 does so well is creating gameplay that make my heart raise. Feeling like I really need to step up to the task, testing the limits of my ability to stay calm and collected.
