LegitHyperbole said: Nice. Fitness is a hobby that pays for itself with the chemicals in the brain. You're in Canada, right? How do you find the lack of sun over the winter on your mood and appetite, like it takes soooo much food to upkeep when lifting. The ammount of food I was buying when I used to lift and the ammount of time I spent preparing the food dwarfs the three actual hours spent actually lifting but the main reason is the lack of sun here during the winter, progressive depression that gets deeper until spring and the mood just isn't there by the time October or November sets in to get motivated for even cardio. I know the exercise would lift the mood but since it doesn't lift the appetite it's counter productive to the health with keeping on weight. How do you deal with the lack of sun? Is it as bad as here in Ireland? We are barely getting summers anymore, might get enough sun to lift the mood if we are lucky but it's becoming rarer and rarer. Also, these are great hobbies and very productive. Reading is one I plan on getting back into to help put the mind in order as well as writing, I started using audible and that was a big mistake, I can't even remember half the books I listened to and confuse them for the same books, they all blend together. |
It's terrible. I've always suffered from the winter blues and have to stave off depression during winter. February is the worst as then it's often consistently grey and cold after already 2 miserable months. It already starts in October as the days get shorter and the clouds come in.
I keep up working out outdoors for as long as possible. +4c is enough as long as the sun shines. But the lack of sun is the killer.
Hence I try to stick to going for a run every other day, alternating with weight lifting the other days. Not easy when there's snow everywhere and it's -9c during the day. The mood lifting effect is still there at least, but getting the motivation to go is hard. And hurting my back while shoveling the driveway doesn't help at all.
As for appetite, I use Canabis for sleep, which also helps for appetite. So I often end up having 'breakfast' at midnight while not eating much during the day.
