The idea originally came from Zelenskyy because he knew the only thing Trump cares about was money but you might not be up to date, because Trump's counter offer was access to 50% of Ukraine's minerals but for reparations for America's current support up until now and no promise of future support, so it was basically a "Pay us back and maybe we'll support you" which was a horrific deal.

The reparations America demanded of Ukraine were worse than those imposed on Germany after WW1 and yet Ukraine is the victim.

Trump is a fucking idiot and it's clear he only cares about protecting his friend Putin now, he could have accepted access to Ukraine's minerals, continued to support them, booted Russia out of Ukraine and gained even more wealth because Russia currently sits on a lot of those resources too but instead he decided to give Russia a dozen wins and try to pillage Ukraine's corpse.

Nobody is returning to Ukraine without proper security guarantees, which will slam their population and economy, then when America pillages the corpse of Ukraine, they won't have any wealth to rebuild, their army won't be able to restore itself, and when America has bled Ukraine dry, Russia will come in for round 3. That was basically Trump's offer.

Don't forget 50% is somewhere between 5 trillion to 6 trillion as the estimate worth is 10-12trillion, a fare larger portion than the made up 580million number.

The other reality is that the equipment America is sending the US would have been decommissioned as they are replacing it with new equipment. That money isn't going to Ukraine, it's going to their local economy growing their military manufacturing creating local jobs.
