I thought this was a western developed game at first. |
Well, Lara Croft (rebooted one too) and the female cast from Clair Obscur Expedition 33 are pretty good looking. Asian developed game are generally more stylized. And even when they aim for realism, the skin is smooth and clear, as opposed to western games adding more freckles, blemishes, pores, etc. Western games also have a larger variety of head shapes, facial features, and ethnicities which is a good thing that Asian developers could take from. But they do go too far in making sure their lead doesn't look "too attractive". Throw in a "stunning" character every now and then. Gorgeous women exist in real life so why can't they be main characters in games? I don't understand this.
I figured the game might be Chinese for two reasons:
1. Female characters looking "too good" for the standard western game. Which sort of narrows it down to Japan, Korea, or China.
2. Production values and visual quality being too high. Chinese games from studios you never heard about can have visual aspects that rival and even beat Sony and Rockstar's best titles. Hair quality is an immediate standout, water rendering and the level of detail as that whale-dragon thing emerges out of the water is something I just hadn't seen in a game (or is it CGI?). Special attention is given to details that western developers seems to trivialize. Even when you can't exactly discern what separates them, you could still sense it.
This game has a lot of potential. Hopefully they are listening to feedback. Niniane needs to stfu, and is it just me or does she sound almost identical to Gwendolyn?
