Tbh I don't even know what was the internet reaction to the SoP so I'll just assume it was bad as always LOL but I actually enjoyed it. Here my favorites and why (Capcom stuff not included because they already had their showcase):
- Shinobi, Art of Vengeance: I don't know anything about Shinobi other than it being part of the SEGA revival list but give me ninjas 2d and I will always be in.
- Digimon Time Stranger: It's funny, as a kid all my gaming time was on my gameboy playing Pokémon but the last 12 years Digimon has been just better and I'm hyped about a next gen Digimon game.
- Lost Soul Aside: I wanted a good LSA trailer and the release date, they gave me that. It's going to cost $60 so I'm starting to wonder if it's going to be a boss rush like Wukong. The date is not the best generally speaking because of the ER multiplayer but personally I'm not interested in that game so I like to have an option to be hyped about.
- The Midnight Walk: I'm just going to say this game looks so good it actually makes me wish I had a PSVR2 lol.
- Darwin’s Paradox!: It looks super cute, it looks like my kind of fun and I know Konami has been a indie publisher for a while but it's nice just to see Konami's name out there.
- Abiotic Factor: I knew about this game because of a streamer. I know it has been on pc since last year, it's cool that it'll release on PS.
Now before going to the main event I have to say I KNOW the Days Gone remaster is "meh" news but I can help but laugh about it because I was joking about that reveal with a friend of mine before the event so ... yeah. I have the platinum already, I have 0 interest in playing it again, I'm pretty sure is not going to sell well but it's funny to me.
- SAROS: Ok so my opinion about the SAROS announcement is going to be biased af not only because I love Housemarque work but also because I personally believe Returnal is very important for PlayStation recent history. Returnal was the next big PS game in the times when Ryan and Sony were talking constantly about "We'll release 10+ services before 202X. 50%+ of our games will be services by 202X". Obviously we knew a new GOW, Spider Man, Horizon were in development but Returnal was the only game with gameplay at that moment and it was the ray of hope that PS was still interested in single player experiences but that's not all, as we know Returnal didn't sell that much, it sold around 500k in it's first year which is still a lot but low for the PS standards yet it was enough to meet the internal goals, buy the studio and give them a better office. That showed Sony wasn't blind to realistic expectations, not everything can sell 10 million.
Right now after the Concord disaster and the cancellation of at least 8 games what PlayStation needs is these kind of games, single player games that have the potential to sell and don't take 8 years to make (Housemarque is not that big so it makes sense to think this game has been in full development since march 2022 after the release of Tower of Sisyphus), Ratchet and Astro are more examples.
I also like the idea that Sony is basically just letting them do what they want, again Returnal didn't sell crazy numbers so it would make sense if Sony after buying the studio wanted for them to do something different, but they didn't. Based in what's on the blog what Housemarque wants is to make something better without having to make a Returnal 2. Housemarque gameplay is their strength, if they think they can do an already good concept based on gameplay even better I believe they can and hey the protagonist is a dude now, maybe that helps with the general perception of the masses so they don't underappreciate this game like they did with Returnal lol.
- Warriors: Abyss: I love KT, I love Musous, I love asymmetric games. I have played this game for 3 hr and I'm loving it. I didn't expect to play 3 KT games in the first 2 months of 2025 but I can't complain. It will be interesting to know how close the Ninja Gaiden 4 and GTA6 release dates will be but I'll go NG4 all the way.
And that was all, I know it wasn't a crazy show but the SoP had a lot of value for me so I'm actually optimistic about whatever they do in late May- early June.
