A dumb monkey game funded by the CCP got all this attention just for being caught in the middle of the divided western political debate, when a lot of it's controversy was likely astroturfed just to get that attention. Meanwhile a new big JRPG by Atlus which was GOTY for pretty much everyone who played it, got overlooked because it had a confusing name. You get the industry you deserve. |
The "dumb monkey game" is a well made game based on one of the world's most influential novels. Millions genuinely loved it, and it won as many GOTY awards as Metaphor, which isn't even necessarily the best RPG of the year coz Rebirth arguably edged it out overall, no clear winner between the two.
"GOTY for pretty much everyone who played it" is nonsense. AstroBot dominated. It certainly wasn't my GOTY, I liked Rebirth and Unicorn Overlord more, but my opinion doesn't delete objective metrics like critical and user receptions, polls, forum and social media discussions, and awards which AstroBot managed to dominate without selling crazy amounts of copies. Confusing name isn't the reason Metaphor lost lol.
