People talk about New Vegas but don't like Fallout 3. Avowed looks kinda like an ES game and never found those all that fun except maybe II. Despise Star Wars. Willing to give Alpha Protocol a try. Looks kinda jank in an interesting way. Be fun to see what works and doesn't and if it has any interesting concepts. EVen if Avowed looked amazing to me. No physical so that's a mark against it for me. |
Obsidian definitely didn't do themselves any favors when it came to Dungeon Siege 3 though by agreeing with Square to make the game in just one year lol, but they needed the work.
New Vegas is very different from Fallout 3 though. The biggest reason why many consider NV the best 3D Fallout is because of Obsidian's primary focus on actual role-playing along with the writing/story. Whereas Bethesda's Fallout's biggest focus have been on the exploration side of things rather than role-playing. At least Todd Howard era Bethesda.
Alpha Protocol is a great example! Some definite jank. But another Obsidian game where its biggest strengths is in Obsidian's ability to tell a compelling story with great dialogue and great role playing choices. It was too ambitious for how small Obsidian was at that time, but it's great the game has developed a cult following since.
Avowed did start off as an ES clone, but development was rebooted to make a game more akin to what Obsidian makes. This is also the first notable AAA game Obsidian has made where they've had the proper amount of time and resources to make a game they wanna make. A lot of their history has been low budgets and a very short development window. But yeah, no physical is definitely a stinger. I think this may be the first Xbox AAA game that didn't have a physical release. Probably gonna end up as another Limited Run Games release lol. I'll be sure to post that if that happens.
