AMD increasing the core count per CCD from 8 to 12 is a necessary movement. After all, Intel's next parts are rumored to come with up to 16 performance cores and 32 efficient ones, and those efficient cores aren't that weak. So, with the prospect of facing parts with 48 cores/threads (more with the low power ones). AMD will need something more than 16 cores/32 threads to beat them in productivity tasks.
Besides, it was about time AMD upgraded the core count. They'v been using the same 8-core per CCD design since the Zen2 parts of the 3000 series.
