Who are the Palestinian prisoners due to be released by Israel?
As we have reported earlier based on the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, Israel is due to release 183 Palestinian inmates from its prisons.
They will include 18 prisoners serving life sentences, 54 others with long-term sentences and 111 Palestinians from Gaza who were detained after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel.
All are men, ranging between the ages of 20 and 61.
Israeli military continues raids on homes of Palestinian prisoners set for release
As we have been reporting, the Israeli military has been carrying out raids across the occupied West Bank tonight on the family homes of Palestinians set for release as part of the fifth prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.
The Palestinian Information Center now reports that the family homes of five Palestinian prisoners slated for release this morning have also been raided in the village of Deir Nidham, northwest of Ramallah.
Israeli forces also arrested “dozens” of Palestinians in the city of Qalqilya on Friday night, according to the same outlet.
Israeli forces near Ramallah beat 70-year-old father of prisoner set for release
The Israeli forces have stormed the home of Fatah Revolutionary Council member Fakhri Barghouti in the village of Kobar, north of Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office.
Barghouti, 70, was severely beaten and warned not to hold any celebratory events to mark the release of his son, Shadi, from an Israeli prison later today, the statement on Telegram said.
Israeli army detains two Palestinians in occupied West Bank’s Jenin
Our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues, quoting Palestinian sources, report that two brothers were detained by Israeli forces in the town of Yammun, west of the city of Jenin. As we previously reported, the Israeli forces placed several houses under siege in the town overnight.
