Wouldn't it make a lot more sense for it to be slightly less powerful than either the PS5 or XSX, at least on par with the XSS? Especially with the gap between the power of home and portable consoles slowly but surely narrowing over time, I can't make sense of a future where a PS6 and a PS4-level console coexist in the market.

I don't know who said that the Switch was only slightly less powerful than the XB1.  It was at best one-third as powerful as the XB1 while docked and not much better than the 360 and PS3 in handheld mode, simply with more modern tech and more RAM than those consoles had that allowed it to punch above its weight class.  If it was at 80% of the power of the XB1 we would never have talked about impossible or miracle ports.

This is one case where Digital Foundry looks to be crying wolf.  The actual indications are that the Switch 2 will be around PS4-level in handheld mode and more like the PS4 Pro in docked mode.  This would be a full and true generational leap, and doesn't tell the full story because of the more modern tech, the games that have still been coming to the PS4, and the reports of Nintendo having an even more efficient version of DLSS that will make the gap in power with the current gen consoles less important than ever.  The Switch 2, if all the leaks and reports are to be believed, will be about 6 times as powerful as the og Switch.
