Am I crazy in finding it baffling that we're ignoring industry experts and professionals, whose entire career is based around analysing these numbers, like u'know, Mat Piscatella, the Executive Director at NPD and instead throwing out Steamspy, Lmao. Steamspy hasn't been accurate since Steam changed their API. This is common knowledge and has been for years.
To use an example, Steamspy says Dragon Age Veilguard has 2-5m owners on Steam alone, that's a pretty fucking wide range which makes it irrelevant to begin with, that's without getting into the fact that Dragon Age Veilguard has done 1.5m across all platforms. So it is massively off but also useless because we don't even know how massively off when they have a range of 3m to cover their asses, Lol.
Comparing to Starfield is ridiculous too.
It's doing very good on Xbox based on Player Activity (Posted by NPD) and Achievement data. If we focused solely on Steam then sure, it may have underperformed but Indiana Jones is not only on Steam, Lol. Fact is the man that knows more than all of us on this topic has said it is "pretty good" overall so are we ignoring NPD now and instead opting for pure estimation nonsense like SteamSpy?
