Yeah I think a lot of the 'negativity' to HZD comes from people switching to the next big release before the game got good. It takes a while for HZD to get going and a lot of people never got past the tutorial area which last 10 hours :/
I disliked TotK as well until past the tutorial sky island, BotW was an exception in being instantly gripping. Which was damaging to HZD. I switched as well, but glad I picked HZD back up after.
