I don't remember them overlapping, GTA3 is from 2001, Vice City form 2002, True Crime from 2003.

Anyway, very good game (New York City not so much, and then Sleeping Dogs really great).

Well, I can't talk about the market as a whole as I wasn't too interested into that at the time. But at least my friends played GTA 3 for years and only stopped once San Andreas released. We only had a few ones who liked Vice City. But most people kept playing GTA 3. Except for my pour soul who didn't have a PS2 or a proper gaming PC so I had to stick to True Crime on Gamecube, lol. Anyway, nobody but me cared about that game, which is why I had the impression the game was kinda overlooked. It's absolutely possible that I got the wrong idea though.

Yeah, it is quite overlooked, though I'm not sure about being overshadowed by some other release.

Mario Kart Double Dash did release few days later, Beyond Good and Evil and Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando few days after that, but not so sure that had much influence.

GTA-esque games generally tend to be overlooked by wider gaming audience, which is a shame, since I find a lot of them to actually be better than actual GTA.

Have you played Sleeping Dogs, which was originally to be True Crime: Hong Kong?
