Israeli air strikes kill more Palestinians in the occupied West Bank: UN
Most of the 11 Palestinian people killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank in the last week of December were killed in air strikes, demonstrating Israel’s excessive use of force in the occupied territory, the United Nations said.
In its latest situation update, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that two women and two children were among the 11 people killed by Israeli forces between December 24 and 30. Almost 50 others were injured, including 19 children and four women, OCHA said.
Eight of the 11 who were killed died in strikes by Israeli aircraft, OCHA said, adding that basic services, such as education, water and healthcare in the Jenin refugee camp have been severely disrupted for almost a month due to an ongoing operation by Palestinian Authority (PA) forces.
In the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps, a two-day military operation by Israel damaged more than 1,000 housing units and left 21 Palestinian households, comprising 94 people, displaced, OCHA said.
Last year saw the highest number of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank displaced in the nearly two decades since OCHA began to keep records of such incidents, with some 4,250 Palestinians losing their homes and 1,760 structured destroyed.
There were also 1,400 “incidents” involving Israeli settlers across the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem in 2024, OCHA said.
Palestinian shot, injured as Israeli forces raid occupied West Bank
There were reports of gunfire as Israeli troops carried out raids and arrests across the occupied West Bank.
Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic report that Israeli forces raided the village of Jayyous, north of Qalqilya city, overnight where the Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that one man was shot with live ammunition.
Palestinian news service Wafa also reports that Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian man.
The arrest took place at an Israeli military checkpoint east of el-Bireh, when a 32-year-old man, identified as Muhammad Ibrahim al-Ashqar, was passing through, Wafa reports.
Palestinians arrested as Israeli military storms Nablus
The Israeli military stormed the occupied West Bank city of Nablus at dawn, raiding several homes and arresting two Palestinian men, the Wafa news agency reports. A car has also been seized from the city’s Aqqaba neighbourhood, according to Wafa.
Palestinian man badly beaten in settler attack in occupied West Bank
A man has been severely injured after being attacked by Israeli settlers in the Masafer Yatta area, south of Hebron.
Local activist Osama Mukhamara told Wafa news agency a group of settlers assaulted Khaled Mousa al-Najjar, fracturing his skull and breaking his limbs. Al-Najjar was transported to the Hebron Governmental Hospital for treatment.
Mukhamara said settler attacks on al-Najjar’s family and property have become frequent and are part of a broader strategy to forcibly displace residents for the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements.
