CTR is a MUCH better game than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe imo.

MK8D is supposed to be the best Mario Kart and sold crazy numbers. And yet a lot of people on multiple popular forums prefer the ancient CTR to it and by extension any kart racer. CTR is simply perfection. Naughty Dog's best game.

Two other seemingly great kart racers that are often brought up in forums are Diddy Kong and Sonic Racing Transformed.

Edit: Mario Kart is the better series and it's not even close. But the original CTR (and maybe Nitro Fueled which I've never played) is easily the best kart racer I ever played. Nitro Kart was crap, couldn't play it for more than a couple of hours. I skipped Crash Tag Team Racing and Nitro Fueled.

That fact that it has 10 votes at all and is a game that is 26 years old is pretty good in it's favour. I expected a little more but this is a Nintendo centric forum, I believe. I've been playing both, MK8 has an oddly addicting hook and CTR is tougher to play because it's harder and more frustratin, going MK8 just feels easier and more inviting but CTR is by far the better game and if MK8 is the best MK which in turn is the best kart racer for the masses then CTR nitro fueled is the best Kart racer there is in my eyes. It has become my easy number one over the last few days by quite a long distance ahead of it's competition, frustrations and all. I've actually had legit trouble beating some of the bosses even with triple boosting and taking advantage of Wumpa fruit and all that.

The games trade blows in known forums. Nitro Fueled dominated MK8D on GameFAQs for instance and appears to be the favorite on Reddit among those who played both.

MK8D is too floaty and ice-skaty for my taste, deeply lacking in feel. CTR is more mechanical and involving, it's a constant thrill at every turn and bump. It's also difficult AND fun to master. But to be fair to MK8D, I only play it in short sessions with my silly nieces. I'm sure I'd enjoy it a lot more if I give it time and uninstall the timeless CTR from my head (an impossible task!).
