Al-Quds Brigades says Israeli captive attempts suicide after failed truce
Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, says the group’s medical team dealt with a suicide attempt by one of their captives three days ago.
“We succeeded in saving the prisoner’s life after he attempted suicide due to his psychological condition. The prisoner’s psychological condition deteriorated after the [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu government set new conditions that led to the failure of the release,” military spokesperson Abu Hamza said.
The prisoner who attempted suicide was scheduled to be released in the first phase of a ceasefire deal that would exchange captives held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners locked up in Israeli jails.
“Following the prisoner’s suicide attempt, the al-Quds Brigades decided to tighten security and safety measures for the prisoners,” said Abu Hamza.
Bodies arrive at Gaza hospital ‘shredded into pieces’
Palestinians are mourning those killed in an Israeli strike on civilians in the suburb of central Deir el-Balah city. The bodies – shredded into pieces – have been brought to Al-Aqsa Hospital.
Within the past two hours, the Israeli military killed at least 20 Palestinians and there has been a significant escalation of strikes not only on Deir el-Balah but in the “safe humanitarian zone” in al-Mawasi, southern Gaza, where 12 civilians died.
Two of the victims killed in al-Mawasi were key officials of Gaza’s police force.
In northern Gaza, seven civilians were killed in Jabalia following an Israeli attack. In the Shati refugee camp, reports are emerging of three people killed in an attack at the central market.
Since the early hours of today, 38 Palestinians have been killed, indicating the brutality that continues to take place across the Gaza Strip.

Number of aid personnel killed in Gaza rises to 736
The Government Media Office in Gaza says the number of humanitarian relief workers killed in Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023, has risen to 736.
“This escalation is part of a deliberate plan by the Israeli occupation to create an administrative and governmental vacuum and to spread chaos and insecurity in Gaza Strip, aiming to undermine the resilience and stability of our people,” the media office said in a statement.
“The shocking rise in the number of aid security personnel martyred, now totaling 736, highlights the extent of the crimes perpetrated by the occupation, targeting those who strive to provide assistance and relief to our afflicted people.”
According to the United Nations, more aid workers have been killed in 2024 than in any other year on record, with two-thirds dying in the occupied Palestinian territory.

"The PRCS provides emergency medical and relief services in the territories, including ambulance services. The PRCS has 41 stations and substations, 22 mobile field posts, 122 ambulances, 346 emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and over 500 volunteers."
That's 4% of PRCS workers killed, 1.5% of UNWRA's workforce, and 2.6% of the population (based on official numbers, 46K + 11K missing)
