You're a lucky man, Sven. To have a partner like that. Count your blessings. 👊 Damn, I haven't ran thatch since before covid. I wish Covid never happened cause it fucked so much up, I don't even feel like cycling the long anymore even though, I'd go 60km relaxed. I can't get back on the groove. |
We found each other in Everquest, so our relationship was based on gaming together :)
I used to cycle, switched to running this year. I was doing 40 to 120km routes, 60km 2.5 hour relaxed ride was the sweet spot. However I was running in the winter anyway (too cold for cycling) and cycling became too much strain on my wrists and knees. My arms/wrists cramped up after getting off the bicycle and I would wake up with leg cramps all night. I was surprised running is better on my knees than cycling.
Actually during Covid I cycled more, that's when my knees and wrists got too much abuse I guess. I also got hit by a car while cycling during Covid, scared my wife half to death. That also took the wind out of my sails so to speak. The 'final nail' was last spring when a dog charged me on a gravel bike trail. I wiped out hard, the scars still look pretty fresh 9 months later. I figured shorter routes, higher speed, but that also means a lot more road rash when things go wrong. Plus it keeps getting more busy around here with our PM doubling the local population :/ Not relaxing anymore with all the extra traffic.
And since running regularly I've been extending my range through out the year. After the initial warming up period I get in this flow state where I can keep on running. Feels very relaxing, steady cadence. It's also the time when I work out stuff that's going on in my head, leave angry, stressed / frustrated, come back feeling much better.
Oh and we watched Home Alone during unpacking presents this morning, has to be on in the background lol.
