Israeli forces detonate explosive-laden ‘robots’ near Kamal Adwan
As we’ve been reporting, at least 20 patients and medical staff have been wounded by explosions around the Kamal Adwan Hospital.
Witnesses say remote-controlled vehicles delivered boxes with the word “danger” written on them. The boxes are believed to have contained explosives, which later detonated.
The attacks follow an order from the Israeli military to shut down the facility.
Dr Hussam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, just sent us this update from inside the building:
“A short while ago, two military robots detonated near the hospital, causing serious damage and injuring about 20 people, both staff and inpatients. This explosion was very close and it’s the first time they have used these kinds of robots near the Kamal Adwan Hospital.”
Israeli order to evacuate Kamal Adwan ‘impossible’ to comply with
Dr James Smith, an emergency doctor from the United Kingdom who has worked on medical missions to Gaza, says Israel’s order to evacuate Kamal Adwan Hospital is putting hundreds of lives at risk.
“There are about 90 to 100 patients still in the hospital, including babies in incubators. There are about 400 civilians and 150 healthcare workers in the hospital,” Smith told Al Jazeera. “The surrounding area is incredibly dangerous. In the last 24 hours, continued bombardment, sniper fire into the hospital itself, into the maternity ward. There are patients currently sheltering in the corridors. It’s impossible for the patients to move.”
Smith described Israel’s ongoing attacks on the hospital as well as its efforts to move the patients as “flagrant” breaches of international law.
“Hospitals are protected spaces. So are civilians, patients and healthcare workers,” he said. “There is absolutely no reason why Kamal Adwan should have been besieged for 80-plus days now. Hospital facilities damaged, targeted intentionally. Healthcare workers injured, their relatives killed.”
The reason is ethic cleansing, clear the North for resettlement. It's become very clear Israel is dead set on turning Gaza into another fragmented West bank and then slowly annex the whole area.
