Absolutely a possibility. 

The only reason I think that SONY opted not to buy them was because of the monopoly issue. Dealing with all that is not worth the trouble of getting FromSoftware. Now if Kadokawa starts shedding some of that Anime and selling off parts of themselves .......

I'm not sure it's because of the monopoly issue because from what I heard it's hard to go after someone for monopolizing "anime" or any sub genre really. Anime is just cartoons. You'll never convince a judge that x-men 97, Aladin, Lion King is different from demon slayer.

I think this is just easier to do it this way for both companies. The company gets more money, no threat of a takeover, and with the deal in place Sony still gets access to the IPs they want. On top of that Sony can spend less money and not have to worry about managing a huge influx of employees and assets.
