I suspect as a stock holder with that size (10%+), you get a man at a table, sitting down with other shareholders, when its time to vote on stuff.
That right there, is more than 0 control. You also get a voice, you can use to sway others at this table.
Ontop of that, this buying of stocks, could be put in place, to avoid aggressive takeovers (as we've heard rumors of before).
Ei. Kadokawa reached out to sony, asked them for help/partnership.
When you then come to terms, there would have to be something that could make sony want to invest, or they likely wouldn't just do so.
Even if 300$ million doesn't seem like such a huge amount.
The thing is, there's tons of IP that can now, be made into games, that will grow both the IP and the gaming space, and benefit both sides.
This is my bet, there will be come console exclusive anime turned rpg games, in future, from studios with ties to kadokawa.
(maybe even them just giving sony some of the IP to use for games themselves ect)
